Argentina – Ibera Wetlands among Nat Geo’s 30 most Exciting Destinations for 2024

National Geographic has crossed the world to find the 30 Most Exciting Destinations for 2024. We are happy to announce that the Iberá Wetlands is on the list.
The wetlands squeeze between Uruguay, Paraguay, and Brazil to reach sub-tropical Iguazu Falls. Once largely given over to cattle ranches, the core of Iberá area became a national park in 2018. Giant anteaters were an early priority for reintroduction, but other creatures have followed. Following the release of eight jaguars in 2021, their population is now a dozen strong; a small number of giant river otters is being readied for reintroduction, too. The chance to spot these creatures alongside capybaras, caimans, and 370 types of birds makes the Iberá Wetlands a haven for wildlife-watching.

ARGENTINA TRAVEL PARTNERS / ATP DMC

An experience at a winery in Mendoza

Merina Begg was recently in Mendoza to explore the latest offerings, and a unique new sensory adventure incorporating a wine tasting experience was definitely a highlight of her trip.  Strolling through an ancestral vineyard famous for its award-winning wines, between rows of different grapes, self-guided by stories and memories of the Arizu family, she discovered several wine-tasting stations nestled along the path, each showcasing exceptional wines created from that grape variety.

At the end of the pathway, a well-stocked picnic basket of fresh baguettes, home-made charcuterie, crispy home-grown vegetables, luscious dips, and delectable wine was waiting, for an al-fresco lunch under the trees, rounded off with home-made ice cream from a cute cart.

Cerrado is considered the richest savanna in the world due to its high diversity of plants. It is home to the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, and it’s the natural habitat of 837 species of birds, 161 mammals and 120 reptiles. One of the best parts of this trip is visiting the beautiful county of Nobres, located about 125km north of Cuiabá, where the Savanna and the Amazon Rainforest meet.

While in there, it is a must to visit the “Enchanted Aquarium”, where you don’t even need a snorkel to see the fish, stingrays, or other animals. The water is so clear that you can even see the headwaters of the Salobra River at the bottom of it!

At travelArt, sustainability is also a key priority and we are constantly looking for new ways to make our contribution. From supporting local small businesses and ethnic groups to buying recycled materials.

Turavion

Torres del Paine in low season – worth the trip

Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean autumn and winter offers unique advantages despite colder temperatures. With more stable weather, fewer tourists, and stunning landscapes, it’s an ideal time to visit.

Autumn brings colourful foliage while winter blankets the park in snow, creating a serene atmosphere. The decreased wind enhances visibility, perfect for capturing breath-taking photographs. Wildlife sightings, including pumas and huemules, are more likely due to fewer visitors. Additionally, lower tourist numbers translate to cheaper prices for domestic flights and accommodations.
Whether admiring vibrant autumn hues or exploring snowy landscapes, visiting Torres del Paine in the low season promises unforgettable experiences immersed in nature’s tranquillity.
