In the Footsteps of Pope Leo XIV: Explore Northern Peru
The world warmly welcomed the news of Pope Leo XIV’s election — a moment of joy for millions. But what truly caught global attention was his deep connection to northern Peru. For over 40 years, he served in Piura, Chiclayo, and Trujillo, leaving a powerful legacy of humility and compassion.
Now, these vibrant regions shine on the international stage — not only for their link to the Pope, but also for their stunning beaches, rich culture, and award-winning cuisine. Northern Peru invites the world to discover the spirit, flavours, and stories that shaped a Pontiff — and continue to inspire travellers every day.
Setours Handcrafted Journeys
The newly appointed Pope, holding citizenship in both Peru and the United States, spent several years as a missionary in Chiclayo. This connection has brought renewed attention to the northern Peruvian city, celebrated for its warmth, rich cultural heritage, and exceptional cuisine. While visiting Chiclayo may not be feasible for everyone, its unique flavours are accessible in Lima. Cumpa is a well-loved restaurant that serves traditional Northern Peruvian dishes with deep respect for regional culinary customs. Due to its popularity, Cumpa’s owners opened a second place just around the corner: Cumpita, a cosy option for northern-style small plates.

New Tropic Lounge in Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu
We have opened our own Tropic lounge in Aguas Calientes! The final touches are complete and we are so pleased with how it has turned out! The lounge marries colour, texture and tradition to mirror the spirit of the Andes. One of its most notable features is a handcrafted pompom curtain donated by the Parwa Cultural Centre, honouring the artistry of local Andean communities. Our lounge lets your guests leave anything behind that they don’t want to carry up to the Machu Picchu citadel, refill their water bottles, enjoy a healthy snack, connect to WiFi and wait for the train in more comfort. Our Aguas Calientes team is there to support your guests with whatever they may need.
