LATA Virtual Workshop with The Long Run

The Story Travels: Communicating Impact Across the Value Chain

You’re doing extraordinary work. Protecting landscapes, backing communities, building trips that genuinely give something back. The frustrating part is that none of it sells itself, and the minute the word “sustainability” comes up, you can almost feel a client start to switch off.

So, this session isn’t really about how to sell sustainability. It’s about something more useful: how to make a guest feel part of the story, and how that story makes it all the way from the people creating the impact on the ground to the traveller who experiences it, without falling apart somewhere between the operator, the DMC and the property.

Together we’ll dig into the real questions behind engaging travellers in impact:
  • What it actually looks like to make a guest feel part of the story, rather than sold to.
  • When the story needs to be told, and where it lives across the client journey.
  • How information needs to flow between operators, DMCs and accommodation so nothing gets lost in the handoff.
  • Where you hit challenges, and how you know when you’ve genuinely engaged someone, not just informed them.
  • What’s worked and what hasn’t, and what the positive and negative outcomes have been.
This is a working, investigative session as much as a teaching one. Your experiences will help shape how LATA and The Long Run can better support members on this, and you’ll come away with practical tools and fresh inspiration for where your impact story lives, who carries it, and how it attracts the right guests, builds brand loyalty, and turns one-time clients into repeat bookings.
Come ready to share your ideas on what’s working, what’s not and how we can create meaningful impact storytelling that makes clients lean-in, rather than switch off.

Sanderson Phillips

Mock Trial Event 2026

Sanderson Phillips is delighted to announce that tickets for our highly anticipated 2026 Mock Trial Event are now available.

We are proud to introduce DWF as our venue partner and ABTOT as our headline sponsor for this year’s event which offers a unique, thought provoking and highly practical perspective on the risks and opportunities facing travel brands today.

Rather than discussing health and safety management in theory, we’ll take delegates inside a realistic courtroom setting and bring a travel industry case to life through a professionally delivered Mock Trial.

This immersive experience will demonstrate how incidents can be scrutinised in court, how evidence is tested in the witness box, and how decisions made before an incident can have significant consequences when examined under legal scrutiny.

It will provide valuable insights into:

  • How risk and safety management decisions are examined in legal proceedings
  • The importance of effective planning, staff training and auditing processes
  • The practical realities of defending business decisions in court
  • Lessons that can help strengthen your organisation’s risk management framework

We are pleased to welcome back Danny Callaghan, CEO of LATA, who will moderate the event and guide delegates through the day’s proceedings. Throughout the trial, David Atkin, Managing Director of Sanderson Phillips, will provide live commentary and analysis, helping attendees understand the key lessons and best-practice approaches emerging from the case.

Date: Wednesday 16 September 2026

Time: 10:00 – 16:30 (post event drinks reception at 16:30)

Venue: DWF, 20 Fenchurch Street, London, EC3M 3AG

FCDO Travel Aware

Summer Campaign Toolkit

The FCDO’s Travel Aware summer campaign features a toolkit of full messaging and assets running from now until the end of September.

The campaign assets can be downloaded from the following WeTransfer link in square, vertical and wide formats: Here

We have some exciting fresh assets for this year, covering the following topics – with a particular focus on 18-30 year olds, but all travellers will benefit from the messaging:

  • General Travel Aware messaging e.g. check Travel Advice, get travel insurance
  • Accidents e.g. quad biking, mopeds and balcony falls
  • Overseas festivals
  • Nightlife safety
  • Methanol poisoning

Travel Aware partners play a key role in disseminating important safety messaging to British travellers before they set off abroad, helping them to have safe and enjoyable trips. While most journeys go smoothly, the FCDO still supports 20,000–25,000 consular cases every year, many of which are preventable. Last year we saw brilliant engagement and support from partners throughout the summer period and FCDO would love to continue to work with you to build on this for summer 2026.

Hopefully the assets and messaging in the toolkit are useful and some partners will use these as they are, but if you need to, we are happy for you to adapt messaging into your own branding look & feel.  As always, UTMs are available on request, and we would be very grateful if you could please let us know once you have supported the campaign (for reporting purposes) as well as share any relevant reporting metrics.

Meet Manola: the face of Bolivia at Gaston-Sacaze

Bolivia is often overlooked on South American itineraries but for Manola, who has sold and lived the destination for years from our Bolivia office, it’s a country that always surprises. This month, Gaston-Sacaze launches a short film featuring Manola and her son exploring the Salt Flats and the Lípez region, sharing the landscapes and culture that make Bolivia unforgettable.

It’s a small example of what sets us apart: real people, permanently based across six South American countries, who know their destinations first-hand. For UK operators looking for genuine in-country expertise rather than a remote partner model, this is Bolivia through local eyes. Watch

Argentina On The Go

Beyond the Southern Right Whale, Argentina’s marine wildlife story continues to evolve.

Recent sightings around Ushuaia have included Sei Whales and even Blue Whales, species that had become exceptionally rare in these waters after decades of limited observations. Their return is drawing attention from researchers and reinforces the ecological importance of Southern Patagonia as a habitat for some of the world’s largest marine mammals.

Together with the Southern Right, Humpback and Fin Whales that visit Argentine waters, these sightings highlight the country’s remarkable cetacean diversity and offer a fresh perspective on wildlife experiences in the far south

Trancoso This Summer: Peak-Season Availability in One of Brazil’s Most Captivating Destinations

Trancoso is one of Brazil’s most charming escapes, built around the candlelit Quadrado, a leafy pedestrianized square, and fringed by some of the country’s most gorgeous beaches.

Peak summer availability here is rare, and we still have dates open in July and August. We have a particular favorite right now: a barefoot-luxury beach house on Rio Verde, designed for easy, sun-drenched living between ocean, garden, and breezy verandas. Ideal for a smaller family, it can expand into an adjacent five-bedroom house for larger groups.

Days unfold between wood-fired lunches on the sand, kayaking on calm waters, and golden-hour cocktails steps from the sea. Strong value, three-night minimum stay.

COSTA RICA

Playa Cativo

At Playa Cativo the newest onsite conservation program is the establishment of the Playa Cativo Lodge Research & Conservation Program (PIC-PCL), a pragmatic conservation initiative led by resident biologist, Alejandra Rojas Barrantes, who is a graduate in Tropical Biology. Her journey at Playa Cativo Lodge began as a naturalist guide, and over the past several years the lodge has been a platform where she learned to weave science, storytelling, and community into meaningful conservation.

The program, launched in December 2025, is redefining what it means to travel responsibly. Guests trade passive observation for active participation, becoming citizen scientists who record bird sightings, capture wildlife photographs, and help build the first integral ecological baseline for a coastal forest in Piedras Blancas National Park, one of Costa Rica’s least visited and studied protected areas, despite it’s incredible biodiversity. Guests leave not only with memories of pristine beaches and rainforest animals, but with a deeper understanding of biodiversity and their role in safeguarding it.

This is sustainable tourism at its most authentic, where luxury and responsibility coexist, and where every traveller contributes to a collective mission: to know, to care, and to act. Playa Cativo Lodge is proving that conservation can be not only pragmatic, but also immersive, and participatory.

Tropic Travel

Tropic Wins DMC of the Year!

Tropic was doubly recognized at last week’s LATA Excellence Awards 2026, winning both DMC of the Year and Workplace of the Year. The awards celebrate the relationships at the heart of Tropic’s journeys – from our local immersive experiences such as our May I Introduce You programs that connect travellers with artisans, producers, chefs, and communities to the conservation and restoration initiatives helping protect the landscapes we call home and creatively share with the world. The awards also recognized something equally important: Tropic’s people and the culture we continue to build across Ecuador, Peru and Chile. This includes the commitment and dedication of the Tropic team, and our belief that great journeys begin with great people and that the best journeys leave travellers changed.

Geo Boutique Travel Designer

Ecuador is home to over 1,600 bird species across four completely different ecosystems.  Cloud forest, Amazon, high Andes and páramo, all reachable within days of each other.

Few destinations offer that kind of concentration. Fewer still have species like the Sword-billed Hummingbird, the only bird on Earth with a bill longer than its body, or the Andean Condor crossing the sky above highland reserves.

Geo Boutique designs specialist journeys built around exactly this.
