Sinegracocha: Cusco’s enchanted lagoon
Hidden high in the Cordillera Vilcanota, Laguna de Sirenacocha rests like a quiet jewel beneath the sacred Ausangate.
Its turquoise and mineral-blue waters hold the light of dawn and the shadows of evening, mirroring snow-draped peaks with breathtaking clarity. Around it, ichu grass, mossy wetlands, and the occasional wildflower soften the rugged terrain shaped by ancient glaciers. Here, silence feels alive. For local communities, Ausangate is an Apu—a guardian spirit—and Sirenacocha a living presence.
Travellers often speak of a deep calm at its shores, as though the lake itself breathes wisdom into the thin, crystalline air.
