Intrepid Travel Highlights the Value of the Safer Tourism Pledge and the Benefits of Industry Collaboration
We are delighted that Intrepid Travel, a LATA member, has signed the Safer Tourism Pledge. They join other LATA members Audley Travels, Exodus Adventure Travels and Explore Worldwide in pledging to collaborate across the travel sector on safety initiatives as well as sharing anonymised incident data with the Safer Tourism Foundation so that common occurrences and trends can be identified.
The Pledge, developed by the Safer Tourism Foundation, recognises operators with strong safety systems and a commitment to sharing knowledge and best practice. For Intrepid, joining the programme aligned naturally with its long-standing focus on responsible and safe travel.
Charlie Newman, Global Safety Manager at Intrepid Travel, said: “Taking care of our people and customers is deeply embedded in how we operate. Joining the Safer Tourism Pledge has given us a valuable platform to learn from others, validate our existing processes and contribute insights that support safer travel across the industry.”
As part of the Pledge, tour operators share anonymised incident data and practical learnings, helping build an evidence base reflecting millions of trips each year. Intrepid has found this collaborative approach particularly beneficial in understanding emerging risks and strengthening its global safety systems.
LATA would like to encourage other UK operators to become Pledge Partners so that a stronger data set is recorded and we can help to identify where there may be common risks or incidents specific to travel in Latin America. It is well known that travellers are increasingly seeking reassurance that safety is taken seriously, and the Pledge provides a clear, transparent framework that resonates with this sentiment. It also supports operators in influencing positive change across their supply chains, from accommodation to transport and local experiences.
“Our Pledge to Safer Tourism can only be seen as a step in the right direction,” Newman added. “We’d encourage other operators to explore the programme if they’re looking for a supportive community focused on continuous improvement.”
