LATA Meet the Media & Media Awards 2026
The LATA Media Awards are an annual event, celebrating inspiring and creative Latin American stories, recognising innovation and excellence from across the British travel media landscape.
The event will retain the networking format from previous years, including wonderful canapés and drinks, giving you the opportunity to maximise interaction with top UK Media in an informal setting. The LATA team will be on hand during the event to make introductions and usher journalists to members to ensure it is a productive evening for all.

Travel payment specialist Repayd has announced a strategic partnership with Swiss travel-technology provider Nezasa, integrating Repayd’s payment infrastructure directly into Nezasa’s TripBuilder platform. The collaboration gives tour operators worldwide access to flexible,
travel-specific payment functionality, including multi-currency processing and fraud protection tailored to the complexities of international travel bookings. Repayd, formerly known as Trust My Travel, specialises in cross-border merchant accounts for the travel and hospitality sector. Solar Eclipse 2027 over Southern Chile
On February 6th, 2027, visitors to southern Chile can witness a spectacular annular solar eclipse. As the Moon passes in front of the Sun without completely covering it, a brilliant “Ring of Fire” will appear in the sky.

New discovery: 2.5 Kilometres of Inca Trail Identified in Machu Picchu
A new archaeological discovery in Machu Picchu has revealed at least 2.5 kilometres of Inca Trail hidden beneath dense vegetation in the archaeological park. The discovery was made using LiDAR remote-sensing technology during preliminary archaeological reconnaissance conducted in July around the Mandor wall.
According to the Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) in Cusco, at least 1.2 kilometres of the trails show characteristics consistent with Inca construction techniques, including zigzag routes. The finding could provide new insights into Machu Picchu’s territorial organisation, access systems, and cultural landscape.
The research was conducted in co-operation with the Center for Andean Studies at the University of Warsaw. Further fieldwork will determine the trails’ chronology, function, conservation status, and appropriate measures for their protection and future enhancement as cultural heritage.

New Brazil–Uruguay Air Links Boost Access to Punta del Este
Uruguay is set to enjoy stronger air links with Brazil for the 2026/27 summer season, making Punta del Este even easier to combine with a wider South American itinerary.
Azul has announced additional seasonal services linking Punta del Este with Porto Alegre, Campinas and Belo Horizonte (Confins), with flights scheduled during the peak summer months from December to February.
The expanded programme is particularly relevant for international travellers already including Brazil in their journey.
