FEATURED NEWS

50 Years of Bradt Guides – your chance to join the party!

This year is the 50th anniversary of Bradt Guides, founded in 1974 by Hilary Bradt, one of the great travel pioneers and a member of LATA’s Hall of Fame.

Hilary wrote the world’s first guidebook to the Inca Trail! It was the book that launched Bradt Guides, and since then the company has had a strong focus on Latin America. Today, Bradt publishes more standalone country guides to Latin America than any other publisher – including seven guides that are entirely unique (with no competition at all). Furthermore, in 2025 Bradt will be re-launching the iconic South American Handbook!

During this special anniversary year, there’s an exciting opportunity for LATA members to share the spotlight. Bradt is planning lots of celebratory events and activities, including a flagship consumer and media event in September at the Royal Geographical Society (when Hilary will share her favourite travel moments of the last 50 years with legendary travel writer Colin Thubron and acclaimed TV presenter Nicholas Crane).

If you would like to be one of Bradt’s select anniversary partners – receiving branding and other promotion on all the anniversary activity (from the flagship event to newsletters, website and social media) – please email Bradt MD Adrian Phillips on adrian.phillips@bradtguides.com. Don’t miss this chance – it won’t come around for another 50 years!

Travel safety news

Travel safety experts Sanderson Phillips and crisis management consultancy tranquilico are encouraging LATA members to make sure they have sufficient risk management plans in place following their inaugural seminar last month.

Moderated by LATA CEO Danny Callaghan and attended by LATA members and delegates from across travel, the event provided an in-depth perspective on risk management for businesses of all sizes.

Sanderson Phillips and tranquilico MD David Atkin said, “Risk and crisis management often end up as a ‘we’ll do it next year’ commitment. But by making decisions upfront, your business will experience much less negative impact should the worst happen.”

Cooking in Buenos Aires

In Palermo Soho there is a culinary space designed for fun where English-speaking chefs share Argentine cooking traditions, creating both memories and unforgettable food and wine experiences. A group activity where everyone participates, from preparing vegetables, to cutting meat and cooking on the stove/oven, before sharing a communal meal. A favourite is the step-by-step guide to preparing an asado like Argentines do!

At the grill, discover how Argentines prepare a fire, select different cuts of meat, cook typical sides, and taste some amazing wines. In true Argentine fashion, whether you are traveling alone, with family or friends, there’s always space for you at the table. ATP’s Ana Laura took part in the experience and was thrilled!

See the look of concentration on her face as she serves up her contribution!
