Heavy rainfall affected Santiago de Chile last week and again this week, causing a major mudslide in San Carlos de Apoquindo, in the eastern part of the city.
On Tuesday, October 13, intense rain and hail led to flooding in several areas of Santiago, temporary metro station closures, traffic disruptions, and power outages.
By Wednesday, October 14, daily life in Santiago appeared to have largely returned to normal, and the highest alert level had been lifted. However, some schools in the area remained closed, and several municipalities continued to be under heightened alert due to the risk of further mudslides and landslides.
Santiago remains open and accessible to visitors, as do other tourist destinations.
