Guyana is set to welcome international attention this month as His Majesty King Charles III visits the country as part of a royal tour of the Caribbean beginning on 27 October.
From the thundering Kaieteur Falls to vast tropical rainforests and open savannahs, the visit is an opportunity to showcase one of the world’s last great untouched destinations, its rich natural wonders, and the warmth and diversity of its people.
Kamrul Baksh, Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority says “The visit of His Majesty King Charles III is a proud moment for Guyana and an opportunity to share the beauty, culture and character of our country with the world. Guyana’s tourism sector has tremendous potential, grounded in our natural heritage, the warmth of our people and the richness of our diverse cultures. As we continue to develop this industry, we are focused on creating opportunities for investment, strengthening international partnerships and ensuring that tourism contributes meaningfully to the lives of our people. We welcome His Majesty to Guyana and look forward to building on the longstanding ties between our countries to develop a tourism sector that brings pride to all Guyanese and lasting benefit to future generations.”
The launch of the direct British Airways flight to Georgetown in March 2023, along with a connection from Amsterdam with KLM from June 2025, has helped open up access and generate awareness. 2025 saw a 22% year-on-year increase in visitor arrivals reaching its highest number, and a 45% increase from 2019.
Danny Callaghan, CEO of The Latin American Travel Association (LATA) says, “King Charles’ visit to Guyana will highlight a destination that many UK travellers have not yet discovered. Guyana offers extraordinary rainforest, wildlife and cultural experiences, and with direct flights from London Gatwick it has never been easier to reach. For our members, this is a timely opportunity to share what makes Guyana so special, and for UK travellers, a reason to start planning their own journey.”
