South American Tours (SAT) supports APROPDIS, a local association in San Antonio de Areco, just 1.5 hours from Buenos Aires. Known as the cradle of gaucho traditions, the charming town offers colonial architecture, traditional crafts and a glimpse into rural Argentina. APROPDIS (Asociación para la Promoción de la Persona con Discapacidad) creates employment opportunities for people with disabilities, who produce traditional Argentine alpargatas (espadrilles), the iconic footwear of the gauchos. Visitors can meet the team, discover the local craftsmanship and explore the historic town before ending the experience with a visit to a traditional estancia for an asado lunch and gaucho activities.
