Nature and coffee culture in the Colombian Andes

Destination Update
Colombia

Located in central Colombia, the department of Caldas forms part of the renowned Colombian Coffee Cultural Landscape and combines páramo landscapes, Andean forests, and extensive coffee plantations. Its capital, Manizales, was recognized in 2025 by UN-Habitat as the best city to live in Latin America. Just a few kilometers away lies Los Nevados National Natural Park, where visitors can approach high-mountain ecosystems rising above 4,800 meters. The region is also a reference point for birdwatching, with more than 650 recorded species in reserves such as Río Blanco Natural Reserve and across rural landscapes where coffee continues to be a central part of local culture.
