Aqua Expeditions would like to share a brief update following the heavy rainfall experienced on October 30, in Puerto Ayora and Santa Cruz Island, Galápagos.

The intense rainfall caused the overflow of natural drainage channels (cañadas), resulting in localized flooding, particularly in the highlands. The most affected neighborhoods include La Unión, La Cascada, and Las Orquídeas, with additional disruptions reported around Bellavista and along the main road connecting Puerto Ayora to Baltra Airport. Local authorities are coordinating the response and monitoring the affected areas.

Aqua Expeditions’ Aqua Mare Operations: We continue operating normally, with no operational disruptions. All our crew members are safe, and none have been directly affected.

A few operational considerations:

Itinerary: Our Eastern itinerary includes land excursions on Tuesday. We will reassess conditions in the highlands and adjust the program if necessary, in coordination with our guests.

Flights: According to the latest local information, flights were suspended until last Saturday (31 Oct), with regular operations expected to resume afterward, subject to confirmation.

Flexibility: Aqua Mare’s flexible itinerary allows us to accommodate any necessary adjustments without anticipating significant disruption to the guest experience.

Monitoring: Our local team remains attentive and in close coordination with the relevant authorities.

At this stage, we do not anticipate any impact on our cruise operations or the overall guest experience.

We will continue monitoring the situation and share any relevant updates should circumstances change.

Regards,

Municipalidad de Santa Cruz
