Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands

As many of you know, Galapagos is going through very difficult days following the heavy rains of recent weeks. Roads have been cut off, many families are without water, and some have lost everything.

First and foremost, we want you to know that we are well at Montemar. Our team and their families are safe, our infrastructure has not been damaged, and we are operating as usual. We are in contact with every guest and agency who has a reservation to keep them informed.

From the very beginning, Montemar was designed to live in balance with the island: we harvest rainwater and generate our own solar energy. Today, those choices allow us to keep running independently, without relying on public services that are severely affected right now. We don’t see this as an achievement, but as a responsibility: because we are well, we can be there for others.

That is why we are working closely with our partners at the Frente Insular de la Reserva Marina (Island Front for the Galapagos Marine Reserve) on Fondo Esperanza ( Hope Fund), an initiative to support the families of volunteers who have lost their homes. Our team is helping on several fronts: logistics and administration, fundraising, and delivering that aid directly on the ground.

We know these days bring uncertainty, and we understand it. But we believe that regenerative tourism proves itself in moments like this one, by standing by the places it visits in difficult times too. For many island families who make their living from tourism, every visit matters more than ever today. We will make every adjustment needed so that our guests enjoy the best possible experience while becoming part of a community that is rebuilding.

If you would like to support Fondo Esperanza, we would be glad to share the details with you. 100% of what is received goes directly to the families, and a report on how the funds were used is shared every week.

Thank you for staying close, for your messages and for your trust. We will keep you informed.

With love from Puerto Ayora,

Reyna and Roberto
