Lake Titicaca, Peru – Update on Recent Fires (October 22, 2026)
Following reports of a fire affecting reed beds near the Uros Islands on Lake Titicaca, we would like to share an update based on official information from Peruvian authorities and reports from our local partners in Puno.
The fire began on October 20 in areas near the Uros Islands and affected approximately 200 hectares of natural vegetation, primarily totora reed beds.

According to Peru’s National Emergency Operations Center (COEN-INDECI), the fire was extinguished on the evening of October 21, following coordinated efforts by local authorities, the Peruvian Navy and emergency response teams.
As of October 22, authorities have reported no active fire hotspots, injuries or damage to residential structures. Environmental assessments are ongoing.

According to our local operators, the southern sector of the Uros Islands, where our scheduled excursions take place, was not affected by the incident. COLTUR’s services scheduled for October 22 were expected to operate normally, with no disruptions anticipated based on the information available.

We continue to monitor official updates and coordinate closely with our local partners to assess conditions and keep our clients informed should any changes arise.
