Colombia

2027 marks the centenary of Gabriel García Márquez’s birth, while Medellín takes the title of UNESCO World Book Capital, making it an exceptional year to explore Colombia through its literary and storytelling traditions.
Humboldt’s new journey, The Literary Soul of Colombia, is a private nine-night experience led and accompanied by Latin Grammy-nominated musician and novelist Gregorio Uribe, looking beyond the well-trodden Gabo trail to explore the writers, musicians, poets and storytellers shaping Colombia’s creative identity. Tracing a creative thread from Medellín through Mompox, San Jacinto, San Basilio de Palenque and Cartagena.
Travellers will meet the composer behind the music for Netflix’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, enjoy a private concert at the home of San Jacinto’s gaita masters, and take a Palenquero language class with a local teacher in San Basilio de Palenque. In Mompox, guests explore the work and legacy of one of Colombia’s pioneering Afro-Caribbean poets, while the journey concludes in Cartagena with private access to Gabriel García Márquez’s former home with the García Márquez Foundation – not usually open to the public – followed by a private concert with one of Colombia’s Vallenato masters.
The Literary Soul of Colombia is a nine-night journey starting from £13,450 per person, based on two sharing. Including internal flights and transfers, all accommodation and activities and some meals. International flights can be arranged as extra.
