Insects play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems, yet they are often misunderstood and overlooked in conservation efforts. Recent research conducted in the Peruvian Amazon explored whether immersive ecotourism experiences can change people’s perceptions of insects and other arthropods. Visitors to Tambopata completed surveys before and after exploring the rainforest, revealing that even short stays reduced feelings of fear and disgust while increasing appreciation for these essential creatures. The findings suggest that direct contact with nature can strengthen emotional connections with biodiversity and encourage greater support for conservation. As urbanization continues to distance people from wildlife, experiences in the Amazon may become an important tool for inspiring environmental stewardship.
