Magnolia Mashpi

Bottle the scent of Ecuador's Andean Choco
Deep within Ecuador’s Andean Chocó, the Mashpi–Tayra Reserve is home to the rare Magnolia mashpi, a 45-metre tree whose porcelain-like blossoms inspired a unique conservation-led fragrance.
Working with fragrance house MANE and The Red List Project, Mashpi Lodge recreated the flower’s scent using non-invasive techniques, transforming it into a collection of guest amenities and products. The initiative also supports the conservation of Magnolia mashpi and two other native magnolia species through seed germination, reforestation and the strengthening of local community nurseries.
The Magnolia Mashpi collection is available at Mashpi Lodge, Casa Gangotena and Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel, allowing travellers to take home the scent of the cloud forest while contributing to conservation and community-led restoration in Ecuador.
