The Latin American Travel Association, continues to grow and diversify as an organisation with the principal aim of cultivating and growing travel and tourism to Latin America.

LATA hold events throughout the year to promote the region, encourage better business relationships and encourage best practice in all aspects of travel to Latin America. Our flagship travel trade event: Experience Latin America, which will shortly be launching for 2017, the fourth edition of the show, is playing a pivotal role in growing tourism to the region.

Travel to Latin America has shown considerable growth in the last few years. The Word Travel and Tourism Council estimate that there were 40.3 million travellers to the region in 2015, a 1.7% increase on the previous year. Latin America is expected to be one of the fastest growing destinations for international tourism with visitor numbers set to rise by more than 26 million by 2025. Currently holidays taken to Latin America by British travellers make up a tiny 1.5% of all holidays taken, however with increased airlift and promotion of the region, there is immense scope for growth.

With this in mind, LATA commissioned the LATA Travel Trends Report 2016. Over 1000 consumers, 130 travel agents and 18 LATA Tour Operators, who represent over 60% of UK passengers to the region, were surveyed to produce a detailed and comprehensive report on travel trends to Latin America from the UK, the first of its kind.

The report paints a positive picture, but not one without obstacles. The biggest barrier being the lack of knowledge and awareness of the destination for both consumers and UK travel agents. This is something I believe, together, we can combat and maximise the tremendous uncapped potential of tourism to Latin America.
